NIDC’s biometric examiners perform fingerprint comparisons
What is a fingerprint comparison?
Fingerprint comparison is a forensic discipline where two or more fingerprint images are manually compared to assess whether they show prints from the same person or different people. A fingerprint consists of a unique set of patterns and details, and the comparison involves detailed analyses of these patterns.
The biometric experts at NIDC compare prints requested by authorities both inside and outside the Ministry of Immigration and Integration.
NIDC works in accordance with a standard that is also used by the Danish Police, where a minimum of 10 matching details must be present in both prints in order to result in a positive identification. The examination is based on internationally recognized methods and procedures, and the result is a forensic statement that can contribute to the requesting authority's assessment of an alien’s identity.
